Our Governors

Presdales School converted to academy status on 1 April 2012 thereby becoming a charitable company limited by guarantee. There is a flat governance structure where all governors have the opportunity to be appointed as members.

Governors recognise their duties and responsibilities as ‘trustees’ for charity law purposes, as ‘directors’ for company law purposes as well as ‘governors’ of the school. The board of governors is responsible for the management and administration of the academy and they meet as a board at least six times each academic year.

Governors are volunteers with fixed terms of office for 4 years with the sole exception of the Headteacher who is appointed to the board for the duration of their employment in the role. Parent and Staff governor appointments are made by election. Governors may be re-elected or re-appointed. An election for the Chair and Vice Chair of the Board of Directors takes place in each academic year.

Governance of the school is supported by the Company Secretary who clerks all board meetings.

The board of governors carries out a regular skills audit and self- evaluation to ensure that the make-up of the board is balanced and contains appropriate skills and experience. The current board brings a range of expertise and skills which helps to direct the academy in a positive and effective way.

The priorities for the board of governors are:

* to set the vision of the school;

* to hold the head teacher to account for educational performance;

* to ensure that the academy’s money is well spent.

The board works in close partnership with the Headteacher to whom it delegates day to day running of the school.

The board is committed to continuous improvement and ensuring that the pupils remain the focus of everything that they do.
